Ecology and landscape

The masterplan presents lots of opportunities to protect and enhance biodiversity across the site which would link to the Local Wildlife Sites to the north. Retention of hedgerows and enhancement of the site boundaries will take place where possible.

It is proposed that the masterplan should take a landscape-led approach, with development having particular regard to landscape considerations.  The proposed development is accompanied by a comprehensive landscape strategy underpinned by detailed surveys and a robust analysis of the site and its features. The landscape strategy has been developed with the aim of improving and enhancing the site wherever possible, including through the extensive planting of native trees, hedgerows, shrubs and wildflowers.

Other opportunities include:

  • Managing the watercourses which would in turn help control non-native species.

  • Provide species-rich wildflower grasslands.

  • Managing and enhancing existing hedgerows wherever possible as well as providing new hedgerows for declining farmland and bird species.

  • Providing habitats features like Otter Holts and Bat/Bird boxes across the development.
